GoPrimo: Croissant & Fruit 6-Pack

GoPrimo: Croissant & Fruit 6-Pack Review

I have been sampling the GoPicnic packages in preparation for a trip, and chose the GoPrimo as one of my possible breakfasts. WOW! This one is ON my list ... and I'm glad Amazon sells it in 6-packs, because it's awesome!

Imagine - A fresh croissant for breakfast, and I mean really FRESH! If you've never had Nutella, it is a hazelnut "butter" with cocoa - think rich deep chocolate. Add the strawberry preserves and you have a delight you'd expect to find in a high-priced coffee shop!

As a diabetic, this was my limit, and I would be happy to eat it any morning of the week, although my doctor would prefer a healthier choice, so I have to keep this one for special occasions.

The small "biscotti" that came with the box is just the perfect small size to have with a cup of coffee, and was also very fresh and tasty!

Also included in the package are the apricots (they have sulfites, so I can't sample them for you, but a friend calls them delicious), and a gluten-free Laraba Bar with a "banana bread" flavor.

The bar is made from almonds, dates, and bananas. I found that it tasted a lot more like a very moist fruitcake than banana nut bread. While it wouldn't be my first choice for a desk snack, I would very much appreciate the flavor and energy if I were out hiking.

In fact, this is a very lightweight box of high-energy, high-quality food. If you are looking for a compact breakfast for hiking, camping, traveling, or even to keep in your desk I do recommend it. I not only will be adding this one to my trip, but will be keeping a few around for my hotel room!

My only wish is that it included a sulfite-free fruit, but those are few and far between, so I'm very happy with the meal. Five stars!

Too sweet! - Teresa - Everett, WA
First, these no longer have the banana bread Lara bars in them, they have substituted chocolate Clif bars.

Nutritionally, these are way too sweet and don't have nearly enough protein. At 79g of carbohydrates and 8g of protein, this little breakfast has 61% of the daily RDA of carbohydrates for an adult and only 17% of the RDA of protein for an adult. As a diabetic, I would never admit to my doctor that I ate one of these meals! Having purchased 5 of them, I have taken them apart and just use the pieces as snacks. I ate one as a breakfast and found it to be way too much sweet for one meal, even ignoring the nutrition label.

As a comparison, a Snickers bar has 271 calories (GoPrimo has 540,) 34.5g carbs, and 4.3g protein. You could eat two Snickers bars for 2 more calories, 10 less carbohydrates, and .6 more grams of protein. I say go for the Snickers bars. Or better yet, something actually good for you (maybe a different GoPicnic option, I love the GoSavory!)

So yes. The contents are high quality (though I found the "croissant" to be kind of strange,) but the mixture is all wrong. It would be much better to have maybe one sweet option and a lot more protein. Who really eats Nutella *and* jam on a croissant anyway?
